3-day Mondei fest Concluded at Nabarangpur.



The three-day long Mondei festival concluded with the usual fanfare on Wednesday. The cultural evening began after the ceremonial lamp was lit by Padma Shree Haladhara Nag, Superintendent of police Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, DFO Swyam Malik, Commandant SSB V K Kasna, in presence of Collector Rashmita Panda, PDDRDA Poma Tudu.
Dozens of cultural and dance troupes displayed their talent and skill. But the local tribal troupes ruled the stage. Tribal dances like Dhemsa, Ghumura, Dhab and Sambalpuri in their traditional attire was an attraction of the conclusive evening. Animal mask dance, Lambodi of Maharastra, Bajasal, Mangala Ghat, Odissi, were also performed. Local Trishakti organisation staged drama on Swach bharat.

Padma Sree Haladhar Nag, along with local talents Jemamani Bossoiy, Sanjukta Panda,Banya Kabiraj, and three others  were felicitated with Mondei sanmana for their contributions to different segments.

Ira Mohanty mesmerizes audience at Nabarangpur.

The Mondei Lok Mahotsav the five-day cultural festival of Nabarangpur district is continuing at Mondei field of the district headquarter town. The second evening started with Odishi dance,  Rajastani folk dance, Sangeet sandhya of melody queen Ira Mohanty’s   song  stole the hearts of the huge audience gathered under a chilly sky at the event.

The Dhangada dhangdi folk dance of Kala vikas Kendra, Kandhmal, Dhemsa dance of Karchamala, Ghumar of Nupur  Kolkota, Aru Eka of Cuttack, enthralled the audience by their performance on stage.

Besides that Goti betani of Dabugam girls high school, Goti Pua of cultural dept, dance of Odishi kala vikasa kendra, Umerkote, performed respectively.
In the Pallishree mela attractive decorations were also put up at the stalls by various other government departments leading to massive footfalls in the evening.
Besides the food stalls as many as 100 types of handicraft stalls showcasing their products mostly rural artisans, SHGs from within and outside the district have been set up at Mondei field.

Students intensify strike demanded Nabarangpur Govt. college status



Nabarangpur:
The students of Nabarangpur college intensify strike demanded the 45 years oldest semi-aided college to declare government institution. The students boycotted classes took out a huge rally to main road blocked the NH-26 in front of the Maa Bhandara Gharani temple. Later to lodge their protest staging silent sit-on dharana near MadhuSudan park. 

The college was established in the year 1971 now the students strength is 3,900  in  both junior college and degree. Our long-standing demand for government status to the oldest college of district has fallen on deaf ears of the government the students said.  
 


The students union alleged that on repeated demands from various quarters for Government College, the state government has not shown any eagerness although the promise made by several ministers, MPs, and MLAs during various college programmes, to provide government status to the institution has become a farce said the student leaders.

Journalist assault: District OUJ body submitted memorandum to DIG.



Nabarangpur:
A local scribe was ill-treated by the  BSF personals in between Ralegada-Sunki, on Friday. Condemning the inhuman attitude of the BSF personals the district Odish Unions of Journalists (OUJ) body submitted memorandum to the DIG of police SW, and IG BSF,  Koraput through the superintendent of police Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra, here on Monday. 


In the memorandum the body demanded proper investigation into the matter and take stringent action against the BSF personals involved in the incident. They further demanded to tender an unconditional apology for their misbehaviour. 

While scribe was returning from Vishakapatnam the BSF persons detained the vehicle and asked the documents. When they queried  identity the scribe show the Reporter card. Instantaneously one of the BSF official underrated by slapping scolding down said what you are doing for the nation? Even though the scribe repeatedly requested them to leave but surprisingly the BSF official started shooting video in his mobile threatened to encounter and also endangered to lodge a false case of NDPS by keeping Ganja in the vehicle.

By tendering apology our media friend came from the clutch of errant BSP personals and the matter reported before Superintendent of Police Koraput, on the same day.
It is not a single case of the BSF personals in the name of checking routinely harassing the common citizens, including patients those who are travelling to Vizag, alleged President Susant Behera.

Among others Scribes Laxmikanta Panda, Basant Rath, Siba Sankar Padhy, Gopal Nayak, Kabiraj Bissoiy, Saroj Patnaik, were present.

Three of family buried alive in landslide at Jharigam.

Three members of a family, including two women, were killed and three others sustained critical injuries in a landslide at Butisargi village under Belgam panchayat of Jharigaon today.
The deceased were identified Nilandri Gouda, Radhika Gouda, Chandra Gouda, of Siunaguda village of Chitabedha panchayat.

The mishap took place when they had gone to dig earth and collect red soil in the ButiSaragi hill on Thursday. Fire personnel rushed the spot and recovered the bodies, the injured were admitted at Community health Centre,(CHC) Jharigam. 

Meanwhile Commerce and Transport Minister, Ramesh Chandra Majhi,visited Siunaguda village of Jharigam where three of family buried under landslide and three injured on Friday. 
Mr. Majhi, met the survivors & families of victims of the tragedy.

The villagers narrated the incident while they had gone to collect red-soil in Mangalisahi hill during digging the surface collapsed and buried them inside. they added. Ramesh Chandra Majhi, gave assistance and assured them that the government would make every effort to help families that suffered due to the landslide. Majhi said.

Speeding truck kills biker at Umerkote.



Nabarangpur: BASANT RATH,
A youth was killed in a truck accident at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district today. The deceased was identified as Gopinath Pandey (22) of Gulipatana. 

The accident took place when the victim going towards DNK colony  on his bike while overtaking a speed truck near Gulipatna, loss balance fell down truck  ran over the body of  youth who died on spot.
Tension ran high in the area after irate locals staged road blockade by burning tyres demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation for the family members of the deceased.
Following information, a team of police with IIC Umerkote Birendra Senapati, and local tahasildar, Turani Sahu, rushed to the spot and pacified the people and assured compensation to the family of the deceased.
