Two arrested in Umerkote for betting on IPL matches.

Two persons were arrested on charges of betting in IPL matches following a raid at at a house in Umerkot-Raighar road on Tuesday night.



Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of bookie Ramiz Hingora and nabbed the bookie and his aide Srinabas Rao. Rs 18.80 lakh cash, a laptop, five mobile phones, a TV, diaries and calculators were seized from the house.  

Investigation is on to unravel the involvement of others suspected to be involved in the betting racket,  said Birendra Senapati  IIC of Umerkote Police.


 Sources said many youths were organising betting in the Umerkote and Nabarangpur. Police suspected that they had links with Delhi  organisers and conducted betting in crores.

UNICEF TO CHIP IN NABARANGPUR GROWTH

A four-member Unicef team visited Nabarangpur, headed by its Odisha chief Yumi Bae on Friday.
The Unicef will play a pivotal role in providing technical support to the district administration for enhancing reproductive maternal and child health, besides integrated child development through gram panchayat resources centre, said district Collector Rashmita Panda.
"We have strategies to demonstrate in one block where we implement all activities through community mobilisation and gram panchayat resources centre will be key to improve all indicators like health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation programmes, she added".



Speaking on the occasion Yumi said the Collector Nabarangpur requested us to provide technical support to strengthen the indicators of the district. ‘We have a fruitful discussion and we shared different ideas to strengthen and monitor overall development by building village capacity to demand services through village planning and foster linkages between the Government and the communities,’ she added.
Among others, PDDRDA Poma Tudu,Sub-Collector Gavali Parag Harshad were present at the meeting. 

Free Cancer diagnosis Mega camp held at Nabarangpur



Nabarangpur:

A cancer check-up and treatment camp was organised at district headquarter hospital here on Saturday. Noted Doctor Dinesh Pendharkar from Mumbai rendred his services during the camp while Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre (AHRCC) Cuttack  director Dr. L. Sarangi,  with Joint director NCD Odisha, Dr. PKB Patnaik, attended the camp. Under the guidance of the doctors chemotherapy was administer at the DHH by the trained doctor Debabrata Dakua,  A total no of 79 patients were attended the camp the team of doctors referred some of the patients to ARCC Cuttack for oncosurgery and radiotherapy.




During the function, Collector Ms. Rashmita Panda, CDMO Anup Kumar Ghose, Joint CDMO Niranjan Nayak, ADMO  Dr. Ch.Sovarani Mishra, and others were also present. Collecot Ms.Panda,assured to provide monetary help to the patients those who are referred to ARCC.It was for the first time that such a mega camp was being held at DHH Nabarangpur. Owing to increasing awareness about cancer, the number of cases with early detection had increased, which was helping the doctors cure the disease in the initial stage itself.
