MP MAJHI MEETS PM FOR NABARANGPUR GROWTH.

Nabarangpur MP Balabhadra Majhi submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday for  speeding up development of Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency in terms of education, road and agriculture.

In the memorandum, he cited that the KBK region has very adverse human development indicators and is one for the most backward regions of the country. Nabarangpur Parliamentary constituency is the least developed and stands at the bottom of the 543 constituencies in the country. Only about 45 per cent of its population are literate. About 200 revenue villages in Malkangiri are not having road connectivity. Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts are not having an inch of railway line, it said.  

Mr.Majhi urged to sanction of Engineering College in Nabarangpur, Medical College either at Malkangiri or Nabarangpur, Major irrigation  projects of Tel integrated project in Nabarangpur, Saptadhara in Malkangiri, middle Kolab project in Koraput district.  Five degree colleges in Nabarangpur, buildings for the govt aided high schools, phase-2 PMGSY roads requested in the memorandum.

MP Majhi suggested merger of Skill Development initiatives within the HRD Ministry for boosting the employment opportunity among the youths. Modi assured to take appropriate measures, MP Majhi said.

Woes of Niramaya at Nabarangpur.

The Niramaya,is an excellent scheme  introduced free drug distribution scheme of the state government, is of help to the poor and needy patients languishing with the unavailability of 572 generic drugs listed by the government. The scheme has taken off in the district on 1 May 2015. But it has been disappointing as far as patients are concerned. At the district headquarter hospital (DHH) here, it was proposed that five drugs distributions centres (DDC) will be established. But till date only three are functional. 

 While the list mentions 102 types of medicine that is available at the DDCs only 60 types of tablets and syrups are available for the patients. The counters are yet to be fully operative. While the health department is allowing private medical shops called ‘campus medicals’ to operate inside district headquarter hospitals. They stock no generic medicines but only branded ones, and these are regularly prescribed by doctors.  In the hope of free medicines, patients come to hospitals with less money than they would have done and are forced to sell valuables or burrow money ashamedly from undesirable sources. As per law, Government agencies can be booked for breach of contract and trust, said Narashinga Tripathy, senior advocate of district bar association. There is no information placed publicly about the scheme or how patients should be able to penalise the officials who keep duping people Tripathy added”  said The situation  at the 11 community health centres (CHCs) are still worse as far as the DDC and free medicine scheme is concerned.

Two arrested in Umerkote for betting on IPL matches.

Two persons were arrested on charges of betting in IPL matches following a raid at at a house in Umerkot-Raighar road on Tuesday night.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of bookie Ramiz Hingora and nabbed the bookie and his aide Srinabas Rao. Rs 18.80 lakh cash, a laptop, five mobile phones, a TV, diaries and calculators were seized from the house.  

Investigation is on to unravel the involvement of others suspected to be involved in the betting racket,  said Birendra Senapati  IIC of Umerkote Police.

 Sources said many youths were organising betting in the Umerkote and Nabarangpur. Police suspected that they had links with Delhi  organisers and conducted betting in crores.

UNICEF TO CHIP IN NABARANGPUR GROWTH

A four-member Unicef team visited Nabarangpur, headed by its Odisha chief Yumi Bae on Friday.

The Unicef will play a pivotal role in providing technical support to the district administration for enhancing reproductive maternal and child health, besides integrated child development through gram panchayat resources centre, said district Collector Rashmita Panda.

"We have strategies to demonstrate in one block where we implement all activities through community mobilisation and gram panchayat resources centre will be key to improve all indicators like health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation programmes, she added".

Speaking on the occasion Yumi said the Collector Nabarangpur requested us to provide technical support to strengthen the indicators of the district. ‘We have a fruitful discussion and we shared different ideas to strengthen and monitor overall development by building village capacity to demand services through village planning and foster linkages between the Government and the communities,’ she added.

Among others, PDDRDA Poma Tudu,Sub-Collector Gavali Parag Harshad were present at the meeting.
