Though the Zila Parishad poll results will be officially declared on February 22, after the third phase of the elections on Wednesday in Papadahandi and Kosagumuda blocks the ruling BJD recorded sweeping victories.
The unofficially-known poll results of 20 ZPs that have already gone to polls showed that the BJD has obtained 15 seats while the Congress has won five and the BJP was yet to open its account. The counting of votes is undertaken just after each phase of the polls though the results are to be officially declared after completion of all the five phases.
There are 26 Zila Parishad zones in the district. On Friday, the last phase of the elections covering the remaining six ZP zones in the district will be held.
The BJD has bagged 15 ZP zones in the district so far. In the last 2007 polls, the BJD had secured 11 zones and the Congress 15.
