Eight Diarrhoea Deaths reported from the district lacked credibility, Collector Yamini Sarangi.

Diarrhoea deaths had been reported from Chandahandi and Umerkote block,  of the district at least eight persons including two children died in diarrhea   while  many others were affected and admitted to nearby hospitals.

In Chandahandi block alone, six persons, including two children, have died of diarrhea with in the last eight days. They have been identified as Syam Pangi (5) of Charaghati village, Eswar Goudo (30) of Semlapada, Suna Nag (55) and Parvati (15) of Belpati, Sesmal Pota (48) of Bhendia, and Kunti Nial (35) of Badamunda village. Hundreds were affected by the disease have been admitted at Chandahandi and Deabandh CHCs.
 Reacting to recent news of diarrhea cases reported in the district Collector Yamini Sarangi, said the news of 8 deaths published in newspapers lacked credibility.  On Wednesday she clarified that only two had died of diarrhoea while attributing four other deaths to food poising and other diseases. Steps are being taken to clear garbage in the affected area she added.
In the meanwhile Collector Ms.Yamini Sarangi, visited Chandahandi, on Thursday discussed with the medical staffs and patients who were admitted in the hospital being given medical attention and those who have recovered from the illness.  Also visited Badamunda village under Mohara,  GP discussed with the family members of Kunti Nial, who died in the diarrhea.

Speaking to the media Ms.Sarangi, said two teams of doctors have been constituted at the district-level for proper monitoring and treatment,  and directed all the medical staffs, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers to keep a strict vigil on the situation and to create awareness about the disease , Further directed the RWSS officials to chlorinated drinking water sources and Two helpline phone numbers have been made operational and people can contact on 06858-222459 or 1077. Besides, arrangement has also been made to create awareness in the rural belt.
