Scribes’ body meet seeks N’rangpur dist development

A meeting of the Journalists’ Action Committee was held at the circuit house conference hall here. Science, Technology and IT Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi, Collector Sibabrata Das, Dabugam MLA Bhujabala Majhi, ZP President Bhagirathi Nayak, MP representative Narayan Patro, Nabarangpur MLA representative Rabi Patnaik, Municipality Chairman Prahalad Tripathy and the scribes from the district attended the meeting.

The speakers underscored that the people’s representatives should seriously take up the cause of the district lagging behind on different fronts. Though the district produces electricity, ironically it is not for the people of the district.

Higher education in this tribal-dominated district remains one of the most backward in the State as more than 4,000 students are being deprived of higher education.

Collector Sibabrata Dash said that the demands of the scribes are genuine. He informed that for the development of tourism in the district, a rope way at Ghumar, boat facilities at Kusumjhar and renovation of Hirli hill will be taken up soon while a polytechnic college at the old sub-divisional hospital and one ITI at Indravati will start from this session.

Minister Majhi said that there is a need for the improvement in railway network in the district. It was also decided that a committee consisting of all MLAs, MP, ZP president and scribes will meet the Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha member Pyarimohan Mahapatra and also Railways Minister Mamata Banarjee soon.
